Trudging

The most important part of preparing to revise is to organize the revisions into managable bites. This is particularly true when the list of comments are so long. (YIKES!)

I copied the publisher's comments to a WORD file and picked it apart. The three main areas of comments were marked off with section headers. Comments that explained her opinion were left in plain text. I underlined any question that could be answered with a 'yes' or 'no', those are easily fixed usually with an added line or two in the proper place. Larger comments or suggestions that require more than a yes or no are set off with ****. Thus reconstructed, the comments ran 5 pages.

Now I can begin to make changes and cross off the the comments as I go. This is easier to keep track of, especially if I don't do the changes in the order they are listed. I'm hoping to have the revisions done and sent by the end of next weekend.

A Tangled Web

The Good News....

From the revision notes it looks like only the two chapters involving the adventure and the one chapter about the NPCs will need work.

The Bad News....

It looks like those chapters are going to need a LOT of work.

Chapter 4

I have the revisions typed for chapter 4. It was only 14 of the hoped for 17 pages. I'll let that slide for now.

Now ~shutter~ I start the A Tangled Web revisions.

Ready... Set...

Okay, I printed out the revision e-mail, which was 3 pages long! I'll print out the chapter outline and work with the two to figure out where the changes should go. That is just for A Tangled Web.

For Complimentary Murder I checked through the next few chapters and came up with a revision plan there, too. Chapter 4's revisions still needs to be typed and printed. Chapter 5 and 6 will merge into a single chapter and will be revised after A Tangled Web is complete. Then two new chapters will squeeze in before the current Chapter 7.

Poor PSI Emergency will just have to wait a while longer before I get back to work on the first draft.

UGH!

The revision requests for A Tangled Web arrived. It looks like it is going to be a real bear!

I'll let the suggestions brew in my subconscious for a few days and dig into the revisions this weekend.

DREAD!

Chapter 4

I finished the revisions to Chapter 4, I think. I need to type them in to make sure I made my page quota. I won't be able to do this until Thursday night at the earliest.

Chapter 3 revisions done

What an emotional drain! I made the 5 extra page goal easily, which is important. I'm really pleased with the changes in this chapter. My main character about went into shock, but we both survived the ordeal of discovering the victim's body. This is much imporved from the original version where she rises to the occation without breaking a sweat.

I hope that I am starting to get in the grove and the remaining 13 chapters of revision and 4 brand new chapters will start to flow faster than a chapter a week.

Progress

I typed in the changes to chapter 3 just now. I already have 3 of the needed 5 additional pages. The playful arguement between the main character and her mother added emotion and highlighted the theme. I hope it also made the characters more interesting and more real.
