Even as Jamie walked into the bar, she couldn’t really reason why.

That it was Friday night made no difference to her other than she didn’t have to get up early to teach aerobics. In fact, she’d already dressed in her nightshirt and snuggled in her bed when the strange sensation descended into her like a shower of shivering snowflakes. Immediate awareness sparked low in her stomach with a sexual urgency stronger than any she’d felt before, bolting her upright in bed with the sudden force of it. It drew her. Called to her. While her rational mind had tried to question it, nothing diminished that urgency. It compelled her to seek the source of the powerful call as though it magnetized her blood.

Not half an hour later, Jamie found herself drifting around the fringes of the overpopulated hotel bar, ignoring the lustful glances from the tourists. The short, hot-pink, underwear-flasher skirt and plunging fluffy white sweater wasn’t anything she’d normally wear. Except for the tugging desire in her gut that compelled her, she would never have come here wearing this “catch me and do me” get-up.

And she really wanted the “do me” part. Bad. Even still, it was not that sexual need alone that made her hands tremble. An unfinished feeling welled inside. Like the acoustic throbbing of heavy metal music. The sensations were akin to being submerged in the ocean when the power of the wave action rhythmically lifted and plunged her body ever farther from the safety of the familiar shore into the dangerous unknown. Only this power surge she felt came from deep within, welling up and reaching for…something.

The strange call whispered inarticulately over her skin with a static pull that urged her onward. As the tide of patrons parted before her they revealed her destination, Jamie’s body jerked awake with want. An almost visible glow vibrated around the two sexy men speaking to each other on the far side of the bar. That vibrancy rang through her soul like a dinner bell, making her mouth water with hunger for them.

The pair scoped out the ladies of the club, but so far they hadn’t cast a glance toward Jamie, so she stared openly at them. As the one with his back to her shifted, Jamie admired the perfect curve of his ass sheathed in his black jeans. A silver belt snaked around his narrow waist. Not even the loose cotton top in a deep shade of hunter green could disguise the sculpted slope of his back. His gothic black hair dipped just over his collar, inviting her fingers to comb through it. So far, she’d only caught his profile as he glanced around, but the line of his jaw appeared strong and his smooth cheek at once both masculine and beautiful.

She wanted to touch him. To embrace him from behind so her breasts flattened against his toned back and his rear curved into her belly. To wrap her arms around his waist and learn the map of muscles on his abdomen through touch. To smell his hair as she kissed his neck.

While the dark one flashed his luscious backside toward her, his blond friend presented her with his full frontal beauty. The dimensions of his gorgeous face were perfectly symmetrical and strongly drawn, accentuating the power of his azure eyes. He smiled as he spoke, and the sexy curve of his mouth made her imagine biting gently on his lower lip and tugging until she had his undivided attention. Leaning back against the wall, he hooked his thumbs in the belt loops of his navy slacks and propped one foot against the wall behind him. His build was similar to his buddy’s and she could visualize them both playing the endless array of sports young men engaged in to exert their masculine competitiveness and keep their athletic figures.

Jamie wanted them. Either or both. She smiled at her own lustful thoughts. She craved these men and the new fierce urge burning in her heart compelled her to indulge.

Pressing her lips together to even her lipstick, Jamie began to stalk them, her lovely prey. She knew exactly how she wanted to invite their attention. Just a small gesture really, but suggestive and unmistakable in its intended meaning.

Gradually, Jamie crossed the dance floor on her side of the bar and approached the jukebox that already played a slow song. The song selection didn’t interest her as she skimmed the titles. Excitement quickened her heart at the thought of the move she was going to make. Any other day, she would not waste time with such a mating dance on strangers. Jamie was hardly a prude, but she was practical. Her fit body attracted all the male interest she’d ever need and then some. She was not above using her body, one she worked hard for, to provide leverage when she needed it.

But tonight was different.

Tonight she was going to play the seduction game. She’d send an invitation of interest to the sexist men in the room. If they weren’t interested, so be it. But if they were…

Jamie drew in a deep breath. Her hands brushed up along her heated cheeks and back through her hair. The stale odors of people and alcohol only skimmed her senses. Something else perfumed the air. As she smoothed down her clothing, the sliding touch charged her skin with acute awareness. She perched on a dizzying cliff, like a skier poised to plunge forth on a dangerous ride. Jamie couldn’t even begin to guess how she knew this. All she knew was that if she didn’t leap now that she never would and the rest of her life would only be a consolation prize.

The pair hadn’t noticed Jamie yet. She didn’t hear what the dark-haired one said, but both he and the blond chuckled in low, warm voices that stroked her skin. While they looked away from her toward the bar, Jamie glided closer as if just to walk past. Taking her time, she focused on doing her thing with grace while enjoying every millisecond of it.

Softly, Jamie reached out and curved her palm over the thick muscles along the right side of the dark one’s back. With her thumb indenting his shirt so she could stroke the dip of his spine, Jamie slid her hand downward. The firm heat of his body reached her palm through the rough cotton fabric.

Even without looking up, she saw him twist to glance down at her. Other than that, he didn’t move or speak, so Jamie finished her motion, sliding her hand down over the lovely roundness of his rear end. As she continued to walk past, she dragged her palm across his jean-clad bottom. Only when she’d stepped so far she couldn’t reach back to touch him anymore did she risk meeting his eyes. She knew her gaze smoldered as she quirked a slight smile. His heated response telegraphed from the stillness of his body and the unwavering, open interest in his Swiss chocolate eyes.

Mmm, she thought. Those eyes were a yummy chocolate to be savored.

Her invitation delivered, her interest expressed, Jamie continued her slow stride to the bar. Pretending as though she waited for the bartender as he served the other customers, Jamie watched them from the corner of her eye.

The pair were definitely focused on her now as they talked to each other. The blond nodded to what the dark one said.

Breathe, girl, breathe. Jamie felt the building burn of her desire. She’d done it and it had been nice. Really nice. Touching so delicious a man in even the casually sexual way left her hungry for more. Her intention, to wait for them to make the next move, suddenly felt impossibly difficult.

The throbbing demand deep inside her coiled like a serpent around her womb. Craving hardly began to describe her mounting agony. Obsession was closer to the beast rumbling to life. What if they didn’t come for her? The disaster was hardly imaginable.

Jamie stared hard at the polished surface of the bar, her hands clenched until her wrists protested. What madness could have possessed her? No man, or rather two men, were worth insanity. More was at stake here. What it was, Jamie couldn’t guess, but it consumed her. She refused to even consider leaving the bar tonight empty-handed, no matter what she had to do.

A heavy stroke across her bottom fractured her thoughts and made Jamie jump. The warm palm moved over her left cheek as it traveled, ruffling her short skirt before settling into a cupping squeeze over her right buttock. Jamie glanced up at the dark-haired man. Standing so close to her, his body radiated a heat that made her skin prickle. The attraction he expressed wordlessly with his intensely hungry gaze and playful smile stole her voice. While she’d caught a glimpse of him when she’d walked past, the full force of his irresistibly handsome face captivated her. He possessed the clear, intense gaze of a cobra that saw past her defenses and held her mesmerized.

She would have remained stunned, lost in his dark eyes, if he hadn’t scooped her hand from where it rested on the bar, into his easy grasp. With a brush of his fingers her fists unfolded, releasing the heavy layer of tension that had gripped her. “Want to dance, Kitten?” The timbre of his voice dribbled over her like liquid sex and she wanted to drink it from his mouth.

“What’s your name?”

He straightened suddenly, coming to his feet and towering much taller than she’d expected. His jacket and shirt, both unbuttoned, flapped open with the movement, revealing a far more toned and massive chest than his previous stance suggested. The shape of him sparked interest low in Tia’s belly and made breathing difficult. In looks, he should have been a model but he carried himself like a cat, all smooth and fluid movements designed for efficiency but graceful none the less. He purred, “Do you need to know?”

Tia froze, recognizing the domination in his baring. Determined not to show fear, she tilted up her chin. “I need to know.”

“Simon. And yours?”

Watching him closely, she replied, “Tia.”

“Nice name.” Simon strode a few paces away, glancing at the impenetrable rainfall. “And what beckoned you to adventure out on a hellish night like tonight, Tia?”

She shifted from foot to foot, not sure she wanted to share any more personal information with this strange man. Then again, she didn’t want him to get the wrong impression of why she walked the streets alone this late at night. “I own a bar downtown. I just finished closing up and I’m heading home.” Living in the city, she’d learned never to display weakness to a stranger. With challenge in her voice she demanded, “And you?”

He chuckled to himself as if finding the question amusing and he eased back toward her. “Just out looking for a bite to eat.”

“Uh-huh,” Tia said, watching him size her up wolfishly as if she were on the menu. A tremble, composed of equal parts fear and excitement, coursed through her. Tia found him far too sexy to trust her judgment. She wanted to stay, wanted to get closer, maybe even touch him but she heard the warning sirens in her head blaring. Best to listen to the warning, she decided and circled a wide path around him toward home.

She was just a step away from reentering the pelting rain when a sudden explosion of thunder overheard jolted her back. Her heels slipped on the slick pavement and before she could fall or catch herself, Simon gathered her in his arms. He’d crossed the distance between them extraordinarily fast.

“Whoa, fella. Hands off.” Tia pushed against his chest, missing the opened shirt so her palms pressed on his unyielding bare pecs. The skin glistened with a golden tan and felt as supple as fine suede.

His hands slid down Tia’s arms, leaving hot trails in their wake. Simon lowered his hands to his side but didn’t step back. Standing so close to her, the rustle of the storm winds blew his open jacket so it fluttered against her torso. The heat pulsing from his body drove away the chills and pulled her magnetically toward him. He asked, “You’d prefer I allow you fall?”

“I guess not,” she mumbled, no longer focused on the minor offense but instead staring with fascination into his eyes. A starburst of white ringed his pupils and flamed into burning yellow only to cool into a red crown circling the edge of his irises. The color seemed to modulate, as if capturing the flicker of a flame in slow motion. “You have fire in your eyes,” she said, only half aware of how stupid the comment sounded.

“Not just in my eyes,” Simon smiled.

A gust of dry heat puffed over Tia and she stumbled back a step in surprise. “What was that?” She touched her newly dried hair and smoothed her perfectly pressed clothes. “How did you do that?”

“That was nothing,” he dismissed it with a wave of his hand.

“Sure impressed the hell out of me.”

He cocked his head, sizing her up. A grin quirked up the corners of his perfect lips, which were just full enough to imply a melting tenderness to his kisses. The expression softened the perfect planes of his face. With amused surprise in his voice, he stated, “You’re not afraid, are you?”

Tia thought about the question. The adrenaline pickling in her blood rushed not to her muscles, as if to prepare to fight or flee but to her skin, heart and lower regions, making her body ache with a longing only physical contact of a romantic nature could soothe. Breathlessly, she asked, “Should I fear you?”

He considered the question. “Should you? What an interesting dilemma. What should one do in your predicament? What should one feel? I have never pondered that.”

Tia stepped back out of arms’ reach, not able to reconcile the attraction and mistrust mingling inside her. “My predicament? What predicament am I in?”

“That I cannot express in words you would understand.” Simon held out his hand, palm up. “I can only show you.”

My first inclination was that it would be all about the sexual experience that the couple went through and that the story itself would not exist but that was not true with this story. Tasha could barely breathe. Such a fine specimen and here he lay within reach. Her hand reached out and ever so lightly stroked Dale's hair. It was as soft and full as she had thought it would be. He didn't even stir at the touch. Tasha drew back her hand and sniffed her fingertips. His shampoo and personal scent clung to her and she smiled. There was no way she could ever have him for her own. Their age difference alone made that obvious, but still.

Once more she reached out. Lightly she rested her fingertips on the cap of his shoulder. Just to wake him, she told herself. Warm and firm to the touch Dale felt so real to her right then. Not that he'd not been real before of course, but he always seemed somehow more image and attitude than flesh and blood.

Such a nice body wasted on such a childish jerk. She stroked down his back, all the way to his fine, tight ass. "And you are an ass, aren't you?" she whispered. And then she did something she never in a million years would have thought herself capable of doing. She whacked his ass. Hard.

Dale flipped over suddenly. In mid-turn his arm flew out and he snatched Tasha by the wrist. With a squeak of surprise she flipped off her feet and landed right on Dale's chest. He didn't stop rolling even then. Not until he was on his side facing her as she lay on the far side of the bed from where she began. Her body pressed to his. Thighs. Tummies. Breasts to chest. His right arm beneath her and embracing her tightly. His other hand still gripping her wrist. Faces inches apart.

"Mmmmm," Dale mumbled. "I'm the only one who does the spanking around here."

"Uh-huh. I'll remember that," Tasha stammered, acutely aware of every inch of contact between them. She'd meant her comment to sound pithy or sarcastic, but it had come out with a tremble. One that traveled the full length of her spine and cascaded out to the rest of her body.

"You do that," Dale told her, his voice deep and sexy and not in the least bit miffed. Finally his eyes opened. The rich, dark chocolate brown melted her resolve like caramel in a double boiler. The little grin teasing the corners of his mouth turned her resistance to jelly. And not even the semi-firm jelly of a jelly bean, but the ooey-gooey jelly of a plump jelly donut that would blob out the other end when you bit into it. Even if she wanted to get away she couldn't have convinced her throbbing libido of that. Dale continued, "There is another rule to this room. No one is allowed to be dressed here without my express permission."

Tasha raised her eyebrows. "Oh, really?" Again, not sarcastic as she'd aimed for. Instead it came out all breathless and "take me now, big daddy."

"Yes. Really. And do you know what?" His gaze slid over her face and settled on her lips until she thought for sure he was going to plant a kiss her.

"Uh… What?" Her head tilted, inviting the kiss. Wanting it.

"You don't have permission."

Bruce crossed to her suddenly, reaching her in two long strides. The hungry, demanding way about him set her heart suddenly racing in fear and desire. She’d barely managed to take a half step back before his arms circled her. Bruce crushed her to his chest, stealing her breath. His mouth covered hers. Her lips parted in surprise, allowing his tongue to drive between them. Feeling overwhelmed, yet safe, in his arms, Carolyn surrendered to him. Surrendered to the plundering kiss.

She wrapped her arms around his wide shoulders and held tightly to him, as much to keep him close as to keep her from sinking weakly to the floor. Her sensitive nipples rubbed hard into his chest, sending echoes of pleasure through her. She wrapped one leg behind his calf, as if to prevent him from retreating from this commanding embrace. Carolyn closed her eyes. Her body felt alive sandwiched between Bruce and the wall. Every place they touched felt incredible. Their thighs. His hips against her bottom. She knew from letters she’d found about Bruce’s occasion forays into bondage play. That had been one of the things that had specifically interested her in his history. He released her neck and both his hands found her wrists. With practiced skill he bound her wrists together with the leather cord. Whether or not she should have resisted him, she did not. Chapter 1

Mary forced herself to breathe as normally as she could with her wrists tied to the headboard. Inhale. The dank smell of a moldy basement. Exhale. The echo of her breathing bounced off close walls. The blindfold was loosely tied, permitting the light to peek underneath but even with focusing at that slim opening, she could see nothing. If she rubbed her head hard against the pillow she would be able to remove it but she dared not attempt it.

Not with him snuggled up beside her.

Deprived of her sense of sight, Mary felt trapped within her own body. She could be anywhere or nowhere. Terror streaked like a crazed animal along her nerves, numbing her skin to any sensation, save the pain in her head and wrists and the pressure where her captor touched her.

Mary heard him breathing evenly but doubted that he fallen asleep yet. The heat of him spread against her right side, and she physically had to force herself not to cringe away.

She swallowed with difficulty. Thirst scratched her throat raw. How long had it been since she’d had anything to drink. Hours? A day? She had no way to determine.

Her neck ached from where he’d strangled her. The attack in the parking lot had been swift and brutal. She hadn’t seen it coming, hadn’t even heard him approach her from behind. One moment she’d been happily going about her life and the next she was helplessly snatched away, like a butterfly snagged in the whip of a frog’s tongue and swallowed into blackness. At any moment he might explode into violence again. Mary choked back a sob.

The man beside her stirred and Mary forced herself to remain perfectly still, fearing what her whimper might have aroused in her abductor.

“Don’t be scared, okay?” he said.

In that single sentence, Mary heard the voice of a man with the mind of a child. She squeezed her eyes closed. As a teacher, she communicated with children all the time. If she was careful, perhaps she could reach this man-child. This very dangerous man-child who may very well kill her at the slightest provocation. Forcing herself to focus on what that could mean for her chances of escape, her exhalation came out ragged.

“Are you sad?”

Mary opened her eyes beneath the blindfold. Softly, carefully, she replied, “Yes.”

“Why?”

She nearly lost her composure at that. Why, indeed. Could he really not know what she must be feeling? She concentrated on keeping her breathing as normal as possible. Sweat slicked her skin. That question gave her an opening. For the first time since the ordeal began, Mary felt the bud of hope. Carefully, she warned herself. You must tread very carefully. Coax him like a six-year-old with a gun to trust you enough to lay it down. Unfortunately, if he was developmentally retarded, like she suspected, he could be just as likely to harm her unintentionally as let her go.

Quickly she considered and disregarded several responses to his question before replying, “My cat…” she began and then belated asked, “Uh, do you like cats?”

“Cats are nice.”

She nodded to herself. “My cat is sick. I’m supposed to give him a pill every morning and every evening or he could die.” Mary waited, listening to her captor while he silently considered her claim. He might not have followed her logic, so she spelled it out for him. “I’m sad because I know my cat is crying for me right now. He has really bad pain if I’m not there to give him his medicine.”

The silence lingered as the man shifted closer. His breath, sickly sweet like chewy caramel, pooled on her face when he spoke again. “Can’t someone else give him the pill?”

Mary shook her head tightly, careful to not bump into his mouth, which had to be only inches away. Why was he so close? Would he kiss her? Bite her? Taking shallow gasps to avoid inhaling his hot breath, she pleaded, “He’s too shy. He’ll only come to me. No one else.”

A weight pressed on Mary’s shoulder. A hand? No, his head. She ached to jerk away but remained still. He mustn’t know how deeply she feared him, how she would do anything to escape him or he might turn her own fears against her and use it to leverage whatever dreadful scheme he’d concocted to spirit her away and claim her like a thing. Like a possession to store in his secret basement and take some disturbed pleasure in the possession of her.

“You’d tell on me if I let you go.”

“No, I wouldn’t. I promise, I’d never tell on you if you let me go.”

“People break promises sometimes.” He said this softly to himself. He was doing something. She could feel the slight twist and tug of her sweater. Was he pawing at the material or toying with a button? Her dread roiled in her stomach.

Mary gritted her teeth, unable to hold back the tears that slid down her face and escaped under the blindfold. She’d seen the light of hope but now it was dimming again. If she lost this chance, he might never let her go. If he kept her here, he would certainly harm her and probably eventually kill. She sobbed, “I would never break this promise to you. If you let me go, you’ll have saved my cat’s life.” She swallowed back her next sob and managed to whisper, “I’d owe you one.”

“Promise on your cat’s life you’d never tell on me.”

The image of her cat swam before her mind’s eye. Sweet, little Fizgig, named after a character in a Frank Oz movie. She cherished him and so despised her weakness when she said, “I promise.”

“Promise on the lives of the kids in your class you won’t tell on me.”

Terror knifed her heart with a cold blade. “Please don’t hurt the children.”

“Just keep your promise.”

If she made this promise, she could never break it. Not with the lives of her children at stake. Her freedom was so close. She could feel it. He was going to release her but only if she swore.

I just signed a contract with Ellora's Cave for my story "Beyond the Veil". It looks likely that it will be coming out this spring as part of their Birthstone series.

"Beyond the Veil" is a paranormal erotica story, with an enchanted ring, a curse, one sexy ghost and a lot of steamy erotica.

I am excited about promoting this story. I can't wait to find out what folks think about it. It's my first Ellora's Cave publication and I am excited to see how the sales go with them, given that they are the top e-book publisher for erotica.

I have completed "Beyond the Veil" and it is off with my critique folks. I'm taking the weekend off for promotional efforts and studying for the state boards, which is Dec 4th. I plan to get back to writing on "Stud Muffin" on Monday. Deadline is Dec 15th. Yikes! Better get crackin'! I think the writing will go fast, though. I can't wait to get to it!

I Love a Good Deadline

I'm coming out of a very busy year... at long last... and now I can concentrate on writing like I couldn't before. I had already started to put down a little bit here and there on "Chained Melody", but I needed a bit more motivation to really get cracking.

So after a few e-mails with my editor at Ellora's Cave, I got my motivation in the form of two deadlines. The first being December 1st. The working title of the novella is "Beyond the Veil" and is a paranormal erotica tale. The paranormal element in this story comes in the form of a ghost. This book will be in the birthstone series, and since the stone in question is a diamond I am guessing if they accept the manuscript that it will probably see publication in April.

The second deadline is December 15th. This novella will be for the 'Oh, Yum!' series involving older women/younger men. For this story I am thinking I am going to have to introduce a new pen name. 'Amanda Sidhe' is becoming associated with darker, harder edged paranormal tales. My 'Oh, Yum!' story is going to be an erotic comedy. Believe it or not, I have a very goofy streak sometimes and writing humor helps me to keep a balance as a writer. So every now and then I go all out with comedy. If Ellora's cave take this story I'll adopt another pen name and announce it here.

I have been covering a lot more ground much more quickly now that I have these deadlines keeping me on track.

Lots to Celebrate!

I just sent in the cover request forms for "Summoned by Lust" and Her Dangerous Promise. I can't wait to see what they come up with! Both are going to be released soon and I am so very excited.

I have put up "Riding Dennis" on my website as a free download. I'll be putting up "Always" in November as part of my promotional efforts gearing up for the big releases. Of course, "Raging Passions" is already on the website, so that's lots of free stuff for readers. I'm gathering lists of places to send review copies when I get them.

One of the most important things I can do to keep growing my audience is to get more stories published, so on that note I am getting to work tonight on "Chained Melody". I really like what I have so far and Shade is turning into a very strong hero. I hope readers love him as much as I do!

Coming Soon

I just completed the edits for Her Dangerous Promise, a romantic suspense novel coming soon from Cerridwen Press. It's good to have it done and I'm excited to see it get published soon. Working on it got me thinking about possibly writing another romantic suspense in the future.

I have a release date for Summoned by Lust! 11/23/07 will be the magic day when you can get this vampire novella from Ellora's Cave. It is one of the Kinsmen Vampire Romances, now going by the series name Dominant Blood. Very erotic! It is one of my favorite stories so far.

So with the editing chores done, it is back to work on Shade's story, Chained Melody. This one is shaping up to be a very sensual novella. My editor at Ellora's Cave is already interested in looking at it when it is done, which is perfect motivation to get on the ball and complete it. This story is another in the Dominan Blood series.

Lots of News

The single best bit of news is that after the trauma of the last several months, I am finally back to writing with the same enthusiasm that I once had. The words are flowing and the passion is coming back with full strength and excitement. I am so pleased with the first draft so far of "Chained Melody," Shade's story. (Remember Shade from "Raging Passions?" If not, go and read it for free on my webpage!)

I just completed the edits on "Summoned by Lust" for Ellora's Cave. Upon speaking with the editor we've decided to change the name of the "Kinsmen Vampire Romance" series to "Dominant Blood". They want two more stories in that series. "Chained Melody" will be one. They also want to see "Always", which was orphaned when Venus Press closed, but they want it rewritten as an erotica. Presently, it is a romance. I am giving serious thought to doing that.

Coming Soon

My editor at Ellora's Cave sent me a bunch of files, including the cover art request form for both "Summoned by Lust" and Her Dangerous Promise. She says I can expect to see the first rounds of edits in late July or early August. That is very exciting!

New writing has been slow in coming. I am trying to sell my home and dealing with some health problems on top of working full time. I should have some down time starting next weekend and lasting a few weeks and I am hoping to get some serious writing done. At present, I am nearly completed with Chapter 2 of Shade's as yet untitled novel. It is coming out quite interesting so far and I have some exciting and erotic plans for this story that I think you'll all enjoy. *Grinning*

More Good News

Ellora's Cave accepted the new, longer version of "Redemption", and it's been renamed to "Summoned by Lust". Both the contracts for "Summoned by Lust" and Her Dangerous Promise have been mailed in.

I finally finished the submission packet for Secrets of the Dark and I'll be mailing it in on Monday.

My contract with Ellora's Cave gives them first look at my next work over 10,000 words, so I am planning on writing something for them.

I'm considering what to do with "Always" and "Riding Dennis" now that Venus Press is gone. I'm still looking at publishers for it.

Chapter 1 completed

I just finished Chapter 1 of the new novel. Currently this work-in-progress just goes by the working title of Shade right now, as he is the hero of this tale. So far we've meet Susanna, who finds herself lured into quite a pickle. Shade rescues her from that situation, but ends up putting them both on the wrong end of trouble as a result.

The fact that a bomb has just exploded might give you a clue as to the high stakes adventure the couple are in for.

Lots of News!

So much had happened this past month I hardly know where to begin!

Fans of the Kinsmen Vampire Romance series will be getting a new erotica quickie soon. “Kitten” is a very bold and spicy short story that will give you hot flashes when you read it! Ellora’s Cave asked for revisions and a resubmission of a Kinsmen Vampire Romance novella. I just sent them the revised manuscript of “Redemption” and hope to hear back from them in the next few weeks. If you liked “Raging Passions” then “Redemption” is going to thrill you!

In case you have not heard, Venus Press has closed their doors. This has left “Always” and “Riding Dennis” orphaned. I am shopping them around to new publisher trying to find them a new home and I’ll let you know how that goes.

As for new material, I am sharpening my pencil and getting down to some serious work on a Kinsmen Vampire Romance novel featuring Shade from “Raging Passions.” I have plans to bring back Caden and Dean in future stories as well, so hang in there and we’ll have these sexy vampires making you beg for a love bite very soon!

I am working to update the homepage and the Myspace page. A good friend of mine who is an amazing graphics designer has kindly agreed to help me with their designs. I’ll let you know when we’re done redecorating so you can come and do the ‘Ooooo’ and ‘Aaaaaa’ thing.

Good News and Bad News

The good news is that Ellora's Cave asked to see the full manuscript of Her Dangerous Promise afer having seen the sample chapters. They say I should hear back in a week or two. I am doing pretty good on the revisions of "Redemption" that Ellora's Cave asked for and hope to have that resubmitted by the end of next weekend.

The bad news is I just found out that Venus Press has closed their doors, leaving "Always" and "Riding Dennis" orphaned and I'll have to check the contract and see if I can even place them in a new home or not.

New Kinsmen Vampire Romances

Silk's Vault has accepted "Kitten" a very hot and short erotica featuring a couple of very yummy vampire hunks. I've sent in the contract and will post when it become available.

Ellora's Cave has asked for revisions on "Redemption", mainly to make it longer so it will fit in the novella catagory. So I'll work on it this coming weekend. This is another Kinsmen Vampire Romance and features Razor, who had a brief cameo in "Always" and in "Raging Passions".

Progress

I made two more submissions this evening, both of them Kinsmen Vampire romance stories. "Kitten" has been sent to Silk's Vault and "Redemption" is in the hands of Ellora's Cave.

I also managed to break ground on a new Kinsmen story this evening. This one features Shade, who was in "Raging Passions." I am hoping this will develop into a full length novel, but we'll have to see what happens as the story develops.

Submission

I submitted Her Dangerous Promise to Cerridwen Press, which is the sister company to the E-book powerhouse Ellora's Cave.

I already have Secrets of the Dark out to Kensington.

I still have several items to get out in the wind, searching for a home. I am considering the various publisher's writer's guidelines before I send out something else. I hope to have a few more items submitted by the end of the weekend.

But tonight is devoted to writing. The story is on the tip of my fingers and I have to get at least a little bit of it out before I go nuts. *grinning*

Bring Me To Life

I have been going through a tough time in my personal life, and as a result I took some time off from writing. I went through a difficult divorce, some health problems that required surgery and worked to rebuild my life as a result of those challenges. I am still dealing with the lingering effects of these events, but after some time in hybernation, I am coming to life again as a writer.

I have sent out some submissions. I am reviewing the current guidelines of several publishers as I look for homes for several pieces sitting on my hard drive. And I am starting to reread old works-in-progress to see if I can resume writing them.

Along the lines of finding publishers, I have come to hear through the grapevine that my romance publisher Venus Press is running into some kind of difficulty. They have not responded to my submissions from last fall and, from the chit chat I've heard, I am not the only one getting a big dose of silence from them. So I am looking for a new home for my orphaned Kinsmen series.

As I figure out what I am doing and get back into the groove, I'll be posting my progress here once more.

Writer's Block

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I hit a major writer's block this week and have not managed to accomplish much.

The good news is that I think I have the solution to the problem now. I'm going to try and write out this chapter tonight and hopefully I'll report success on the blog tomorrow. My original plan for "Raging Passions" is taking a U-turn. I think it will fit better than what I was trying to force the characters to do.

Smoking Keyboard

Night Writing

I am such a night person when it comes to writing. Last night I stayed up until 12:30am finishing Chapter 11 of Secrets of the Dance, even though I had to get up at 6am. It is not uncommon for me to write until 3 in the morning before my dear husband grumps at me to come to bed and shut off the lights. The poor fella. He can't get a break since I got the laptop and can write all over the house now.

Anyway, Chapter 11 is done. I am trying hard not to feel stuck. I know what I wanted to do next, I'm just not sure if it makes since in the story. I guess I have to meditate on that.

Meanwhile, I'm getting tons of wonderful messages, e-mails and comments from folks who liked Chapter 1 of "Raging Passions". Thanks guys! The story is bouncing around in my head, ready to burst forth with Chapter 2, and that is what I plan to work on today. For some demented reason, I always write best under a deadline.

Since this morning I have been sending out notices that the first chapter of "Raging Passions" is online. According to the little counter, 34 individuals have clicked on the page to check it out. I have also been getting lots of nice messages from folks who enjoyed it. So cool! Thanks guys!

Raging Passions

The first chapter of "Raging Passions" is complete. Last night I sat down and wrote it out in one long rush. I love it when a story flows like that. I'm having a few proof readers check it before posting it. It is going to be hotter than I anticipated, closer to Laurell K. Hamilton's style, with lots of hot guys and more than one getting to tumble with Rage, my heroine. It came out really well and I am looking forward to writing Chapter 2.

Chapter 10 of Dance Done

I had to dump the last five or so pages and redo it completely. I keep wondering off course with this story. I need to get a handle on these characters. I'm still not sure about the last page of that chapter. BUT... I'm moving on. With Chapter 10 completed, I am 1/3 of the way through this novel. I've got some loose threads of a story idea I am trying to follow. Maybe If I keep working at this on a steady pace I will finally get the plot under control.

I want to get another chapter written and then work on the first part of "Raging Passions".

Pulling Fingernails

I finally completed Chapter 9 of Dance. Some medium sized disasters were happening in my house, which made concentrating difficult. I had to toss 3 pages in the middle where the story went off track. Then the characters went and did their own thing without my consent anyway. It still puts me where I need to be for the next chapter, but it added a weird complication to the plot, which I think I can use.

I definately know what is happening (at least what is supposed to happen) in the next 2 chapters. I'm going to plow right into them and see if I can get them knocked out in the next couple days.

Back to the Dance

Secrets of the Dance, that is, my current novel-in-progress. I just finished reading the completed chapters (8 so far) to get back into the story. It is hard to avoid the urge to edit, but it's not time for that yet. I need to get the first draft done before switching gears to edit. I've been carrying around the story in my mind all the time I was working on "Kitten" and "Redemption", and now that they are submitting, I am jittering with anticipation.

All the while, in the back of my mind, I am working on the free serialized novella I plan to start posting on my website later this month. I think it will be titled "Raging Passions", a play on the name of the main character. Rage is the vampire name for Ragina, our heroine.

I heard from Venus Press about "Riding Dennis", they want a few small edits. The editor will not be back in the office until Tuesday, so I will aim to have both those stories submitted on that day.

Bad Little Girl

My hubby is miffed at me, but I don't care. I spent a pretty penny on a laptop and I love it! Now I can type in bed, at the coffee shop, anywhere! I'm hoping this will save me major time by letting me skip the long hand writing when I'm away from my office.

I even managed to type in half the edits for "Redemption" last evening. I'm hoping to knock out the remaining edits tonight. Then "Kitten" will get a final read through and submitted to Venus Press.

Her Dangerous Promise, Still Homeless

This weekend I got a vibe. I thought it meant the agent was reading my Secrets of The Dark submission. Then on Monday, I got the vibe the reply was in the mail. I felt it was a big envelope, which meant a rejection, because they were returning the manuscript. I've been a bundle of nerves until today, when the big envelope arrived.

How's that for psychic?

Only the envelope was from Kensington, not the agent. Kensington passed on Her Dangerous Promise, but gave me a really nice personal note.

Here's what she said:

"Thanks very much for the look as HER DANGEROUS PROMISE, which I read with interest, although I'm sorry to say no. You have a very good sense of pace, an all-important quality in a thriller, but what this romantic suspense lacked was atmosphere and grit. It comes down to making the most of odd details, really -- and also picking the details that will send a shiver down the reader's spine. Okay, I'm talking movies now, but what I mean is this: the shower curtain in the shower scene in PSYCHO is only a piece of vinyl... but oh, does the viewer remember Anthony Perkin's side of it... and Janet Leigh's side... down to the drops on her face as she screams. Water? Tears?

Your story has a similiar quality to that horror classic but you pulled back once too often when you should have zoomed in. Good try, though. Pace is one of those things that's impossible to teach -- writers either have it or they don't. And you do, so you're off to a great start.

That's a long and very nice note. It would have been nice if she asked for edits instead of rejecting it. Oh, well. It is still a good step forward from the form letter rejection.

So now I have to bundle the manuscript back up and figure out where to send it next.

My Space Headaches

So I'm working up a MySpace page, because that is 'the thing to do' these days. And that website is making me nuts. You can barely customize it. The connection is slow even with DSL. Change of Plans

I have just not been able to get into "Wolf Song" lately. I'm setting it aside for now. I'm too eager to get back to Dance to mess with anything else.

Even having said that, I am working on the edits for "Redemption". After reading it, I'm pleased to find that it will not require too much editing.

The characters of Dance have been on hold too long and I hope to be back to that story by the weekend.

Review Requests

Finally, I'm doing some of the promotional activities I should have been doing all along. I just submitted about 20 review requests to various romance and erotica review websites for "Always". Hopefully, I'll be able to report new reviews very soon. But now it is getting late and I'm getting sleepy, so I'm off to bed for now.

Kitten Complete

After several edits, "Kitten" is finally done. I've sent it off to some of my writer friends to get feedback. I hope to have it submitted in a week or so.

I am turning my focus to "Wolf Song" again. I hope to have that rough draft complete in the next week.

On a related note, I just bought the new 3 Days Grace cd with "Animal I Have Become" on it. I LOVE THAT SONG. I'm listening to it on 'loop' right now.

Almost Back On Track

With the exception of the last chapter quiz and final exam in Economics, I am done with that class. The only reason those items are outstanding is because the prof has not posted them online yet. (GRRRR!)

Anyway, I typed in the few changes I made to "Wolf Song" and "Kitten" and printed them out. I still have to finish the first draft of "Wolf Song", and finish the edits for it and "Kitten", and "Redemption." I want to get all three submitted by the end of the month. (I know, I know, I keep saying I want to submit them and then miss my deadlines.)

But, I am seriously anxious to get back to Dance and to work on the promotion stuff for "Always".

So, I'm getting off line and getting to work now.

Catching Up

I've not accomplished much writing-wise lately. I started the new job and it is great. Getting used to nights is a challenge, though.

I have a week of school left. Thank goodness. That is what I am working on now. I will have so much more writing time when it is over, I can't wait.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I have 2 more weeks of classes. Thank Goddess! I can't wait to be DONE!

Instead of working on "Wolf Song" as I intended to yesterday, a little romp of a short story popped into my head. I wrote it out entirely, getting the first draft done about 1:30 this morning. It's called "Kitten" and it is another Kinsmen vampire romance. I'll be sending it to Venus Press for their 'confessions to venus' line when I am done editing it. I'll have to type it first. I wrote it out instead of typing it. I wish I had a laptop, then I could be more mobile and efficient when I write.

Speaking of Venus Press, I'll be doing an online 'chat' with them Sept. 21 at 2pm on line, if you folks want to come over and give me a friendly voice in the crowd, I'd appreciate it. I'll tell you more details when I know them. I have a 1 hour chat slot. I'll be giving away a copy of "Always" to someone who signs up for my yahoo group between now and the end of the day of Sept 22, when the mega Venus Press Summer Blowout ends.

I start my new job Monday. I'm a bundle of nerves over that, but it should be good and actually give me more writing time, which is outstanding.

Typed and Printed

I'm exhausted. I typed out the parts of "Redemption" that had been handwritten in a flurry of fingers over the keyboard. It come out to 70 pages. Wow, much longer than I expected. I think it might reach novella length (19,000 words) in the next couple drafts.

But, first, I want to finish the first draft of "Wolf Song." I'll be rereading Chapter 1 during my lunch break and then getting down to business on that fella this afternoon.

It feels so good to be writing steady again. I'm anxious to get these short peices done so I can get back to Dance. The story has been moving forward in my head and I hate to let it get too far ahead of me.

On the agent side, I calculate that the submission should have reached her by now. This means I can start the worried watching of the mailbox for a reply. The life of a writer is spent with constant anxiety about mail. Did anything writing related come today? Is it good news, or bad news? Is the mailman holding out on me? Did he deliver it to the wrong address? Every day I try not to tackle him and riffle through his bag looking for my reply envelope. Most days I succeed.

That sucker ran LONG! I've finally decided on a title for it. How do you like, "Redemption" as a vampire romance title?

I have about 20 pages of the manuscript that were written in long hand that I need to type. Then I know I'll be editing this one heavily, most likely expanding it even more. I hope to have it over to Venus Press in a week or so.

Then I want to finish up "Wolf Song", and get back to Dance. I should hear back from the agent before I finish with all that. I have the next agent in mind if needed, but I REALLY hope it is NOT needed. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Busy... But not done yet.

I've written about 25 pages on Razor's story the last few days, and it still isn't complete yet! Yikes, this is going to be a novella for sure. Oops!

Just once more scene to go, I'm pretty sure.

Secrets of the Dark

Formerly Deluge, for those of you keeping track. I just entered the last of the edits and printed the monster out. It weighs in at a hefty 396 pages, so actually it is about 100,000 words instead of 90,000. That is cool.

Anyway, I have it bound with a couple of rubberbands now, and stuffed inside a FedEx box ready to mail out when an agent asks for it. Hopefully, that will be very soon.

Still Hanging In There

Only 3 weeks left of school. Yeah! Only 2 weeks until I start the cool new job. Yeah! Finally getting "The Secrets of the Dark" submitted to the next agent today. Yeah! Taking today to work on Razor's story. Ultra-mega yeah!

Getting Back to the Writing

Today I typed in the edits through Chapter 24 in Deluge. Then I re-worked Chapter 25 based on the comment by my critique partner that she couldn't visualize the scene. One thing led to another and a lot of the scene was changed as a result. I know it is better. I'm not sure if it is good enough. I'll let it simmer a little while and go over it again later.

I'm giving myself this evening to write without worrying about school. I've completed all of the course work for the Management class, so that leaves me with only Marketing, which I am loving, and Economics, which I am struggling hard not to fail.

I want to finish up Wolf Song and Razor's story, which I have not titled yet, before the end of the weekend. That might be wishful thinking, but that is the goal. Then I can get back to Dance with a clear head.

I tried very hard to focus on getting through a stack of schoolwork during the early part of this week. Of course, my brain retaliated by giving me a new story to write. So when I got to a point I felt I needed a break I sat down and wrote out the first chapter of a short story/novella (I'm not sure which yet) called Wolf Song. I still have not finished the Razor short story yet, and I still want to get back to Dance. Ack! I can't wait for the summer quarter to be over so I can dig in an get some serious writing done! Just 4 weeks to go.
